Normally, I just give you the recipe without much fanfare, but this one deserves some special notes! Please use my recipe as a guide and customize it with your favorite veggies and add-ons. Additionally, you can form patties and make a traditional burger or do what I did and quickly brown up the ground beef. Fun fact: I have never had a Big Mac in my life, but I love this salad!

I like to serve it buffet style, so the kids can create their own - use whatever toppings you like (just do NOT forget the pickles!):

Ingredients

Salad Ingredients
  • 6 cups lettuce mix (Romaine, iceberg, or butter lettuce)
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (or turkey)
  • 2 teaspoons seasoning of your choice (I use Penzey’s chip + dip seasoning or you could use 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper, 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced onion
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese or cheddar blend
  • 1/4 cup dill hamburger pickles
  • ANY additional veggies or sprouts of your choice
Secret Sauce Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup mayo (or 1/2 cup mayo, 1/4 cup nonfat Greek yogurt to cut back on fat and calories)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (I used Trader Joe’s Pale Ale Honey Mustard)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons minced dill pickle

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground beef (you could also form patties and make burgers mixed with the seasoning)
  3. Brown the ground beef for 5-6 minutes, drain off fat, then add your seasoning and water.
  4. Bring to a simmer and stir well until all beef is cooked and coated evenly in the seasoning.
  5. While beef is cooking, mix together all secret sauce ingredients and chop all veggies.
  6. Once beef is cooked through, each person can assemble their own salad and enjoy immediately!

You can also make your Big Mac Salad into a low-carb burger and fries dinner and serve with Turnip Fries!
